Property Tax Information

How Are Property Tax Rates Determined?

Property taxes are calculated based on the assessed value of your property, which includes both the land and any buildings or improvements located on the property.

The tax rate shown on your property tax bill is a combination of rates established by several taxing jurisdictions, including:

  • City of Greenwood

  • Greenwood School District

  • Clark County

  • Chippewa Valley Technical College

The City of Greenwood does not determine or set the tax rates for Clark County, the Greenwood School District, or Chippewa Valley Technical College.

The combined tax rate is commonly referred to as the mill rate or mill levy.

Property taxes are one source of funding used to support local government services. The City also receives revenue from other sources, including state aid, grants, service fees, permits and licenses, and other financing sources.

Forms may also be picked up at City Hall.

Important Reminder for Mailed Tax Payments

Property owners who mail their tax payments are encouraged to mail payments well in advance of the January 31 deadline.

The U.S. Postal Service's processing and postmarking procedures may result in mail receiving a postmark at a sorting facility rather than when it is initially placed in the mail. As a result, payments mailed close to the deadline could receive a postmark after January 31.

A payment with a postmark after the applicable deadline may be considered delinquent.

To avoid potential issues, please mail your payment early or use one of the City's other payment options, including paying at City Hall or using the secure drop box.
